Stockholms Allmänna Skridskoklubb, SASK, (The Stockholm Public Skating Club) was established on April 12, 1883 by general Viktor Gustaf Balck. The Club was founded by an invitation of the Stockholm Rowing Club for the purpose of giving the citizens a possibility to practice skating, primarily by constructing and maintaining a skating track at Nybroviken. The club was early active on an international level and in that respect active in creating the International Skating Union in 1892, an organisation of which, Stockholms Allmänna Skridskoklubb still is a direct member. ISU is, among other things, responsible for arranging the World & European Championship in ice skating. |
